Global Games Welcome 11 Australians

Athletics Australia's Paralympic Preparation Program has today nominated eleven athletes to compete at the INAS Global Games in Liguria (ITA) from 4 September 2011.

The Global Games is a multi-sport event run under the auspices of INAS, an international sporting body who create competition opportunities for para-athletes with an intellectual disability.

In 2011, the athletics competition at the Games will double as the INAS Athletics World Championships, with events confirmed for the 2012 London Paralympics (T/F 20 shot put, long jump and 1,500m) all International Paralympic Committee endorsed.

The athletics team nominated includes three athletes - Nicholas Hum (long jump, 100m), Tim Page (800m, 1,500m) and Nicole Vernon (shot put, discus throw) - who competed at the 2011 IPC Athletics Championships in January, with Page a silver medalist in the 1,500m.

100m: Nicholas Hum (VIC), Andrew Mathews (SA)

200m: Mathews, Tim Foster (NSW)

400m: Mathews, Foster, Paul Gilbert (WA), Drew Semmens (VIC)

800m: Gilbert, Semmens, Tim Page (VIC)

1500m: Gilbert, Semmens, Page

Long jump: Hum, Mathews, Foster

Shot put: Lindsay Sutton

Discus throw: Sutton

Hammer throw: Sutton

Women (4):

100m: Ella Pardy (WA), Taylor Doyle (NSW), Stephanie Schweitzer (NSW)

200m: Schweitzer, Pardy

400m: Schweitzer

Long jump: Schweitzer, Pardy, Doyle
