The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has published its final Athletics event programme for the London 2012 Paralympic Games and it features 170 different medal events.

• Men’s 100m T44 which is expected to see a showdown between South African Oscar Pistorius and American World Champion Jerome Singleton.

• Men’s Marathon T54 which is likely to see Britain’s David Weir go head-to-head with Australia’s Kurt Fearnley, Switzerland’s Marcel Hug and Canada’s Josh Cassidy.

• Women’s T11 100m which could feature the fastest female Paralympian on earth, Brazil’s Terezinha Guilhermina.

• Women’s F42 Long Jump which will probably see new World Champion and World record holder Kelly Cartwright of Australia up against former World record holder Vanessa Low of Germany.

Helen Murphy, the IPC Athletics Sports Manager, said: “The London 2012 Athletics event programme will cover 170 different medal events which is an increase of 10 on the last Games in Beijing.

“The programme has been developed in consultation with our National Paralympic Committees and has taken into account of World Championships participation and performance data, World Ranking lists and depth of sport class.

“The result is a programme we believe is a very exciting one for spectators and athletes alike and provides opportunities for all sport classes to participate in a range of events, including those with high support needs.”

In London there will be 103 Men’s medal events whilst Women will compete in 67 events.

Athletes have until 5 August 2012 to qualify for the Paralympic Games which get underway on 29 August and run until 9 September 2012.
