“The World Championships are the high point of my year.”

Cycling Ireland will have five bikes competing in the 2014 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Greenville, South Carolina, USA, this coming weekend (28 August-1 September) including Paralympic Champion Mark Rohan, and 2013 World Cup winner Colin Lynch.

The team is a strong mix of experience and new blood, with all bikes competing in both the Time Trial and the Road Race.

At the 2013 World Championships, Ireland won two medals with Rohan claiming silver in the H1 Time Trial and Lynch winning bronze in the C2 Time Trial. Rohan also finished the Road Race in fourth place, and has spent considerable time this year on rebuilding his form, and is optimistic and excited about the coming Championships.

“The World Championships are the high point of my year,” said Rohan. “You train all year and you get to race at this level three or four times.

“This is the highlight, and I’m looking forward to performing. I worked hard enough this year, and spent some time in the National Altitude Centre in Limerick, with great support from Rachel Turner, Tom Cummins and Toni Rossiter. Last year I came second, hopefully I can close this gap and bring home the World Championship Title. I’m looking forward to performing.”

Ireland will once again have two tandems competing, both of which are new combinations for the 2014 season.

Paralympic bronze Medallist in the Time Trial, James Brown partners with Dundalk man Bryan McCrystal, with McCrystal’s sister Eve piloting the tandem for Paralympian Katie-George Dunlevy. Galway man Eoghan Clifford will be making his World Championship debut, competing in both the Road Race and the Time Trial.

The free, international live streaming of the road race events will be available at USParalympics.org at the following times:
