Canada’s Michelle Stilwell took the gold at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships, while the USA’s Kerry Morgan won silver and Japan’s Teruyo Tanaka took bronze.

When to watch: Final: 18:06 on 27 July

What happened last time: Canada’s Michelle Stilwell took the gold at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships, while the USA’s Kerry Morgan won silver and Japan’s Teruyo Tanaka took bronze.

World-record holder: Stilwell set the current world-best mark of 18.67 on 14 July 2012 in Windsor, Canada.

Who to watch: Many expect this event to be a two-horse race between Stilwell and Vervoort, but don’t count out American Morgan and her compatriot Cassie Mitchell, as well as Japanese sprinter Yuka Kiyama. While the aforementioned pair is expected to finish one-two, it will be interesting to see who challenges for the final podium spot.

Why you should watch: Up until the last Paralympics, Stilwell has owned this race since she began competing on the international stage in 2006. But with Vervoort beating her to the finish at London 2012, gold is certainly expected to be up for grabs in Lyon. Whoever takes the top spot at the World Championships will have the upper-hand as the road to Rio 2016 begins.
