Matt Skelhon: Best and worst moments

Great Britain’s world and European champion rifle shooter Matt Skelhon will once again be one of his country’s brightest medal hopes at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games from 8 September.

He is the current world record holder in R6 (mixed 50m rifle prone SH1) and a Paralympic gold medallist from 2008 in R3 (mixed 10m air rifle prone SH1).

In Rio he will hoping to improve on his performances from his home Paralympic Games at London 2012 where he missed out on gold, instead taking a silver and bronze on the rifle range.

My best moments

1. Winning two medals in London because my goal when I took up the sport was to compete at my home Games.

2. Winning the World Championships in 2014 because that meant I now had European, world and Paralympic titles

3. My gold medal in Beijing, many people might have put that at the top and although it was an incredible experience and one of the best moments of my life, my dreams were further down the line.

My worst moment

Honestly I can't think of three things and put them in order, I compete to win! Without this mindset I don't think being happy with second will push you to come first. So naturally I don't like coming second or third.

So with that said the worst times in my career are when I'm not on top of the podium.
