My Greatest: Leilia Adzhametova

Paralympic sprint champion opens up on big influences 26 Nov 2018 By World Para Athletics

Want to know what motivates Ukraine’s Paralympic, world and European champion Leilia Adzhametova? World Para Athletics put four questions to the 24-year-old in our new series, ‘My Greatest’.

My greatest sporting achievement

It was of course my gold medal in Rio de Janeiro (at the 2016 Paralympic Games), and also my world record in the 100m T13 - also in Rio.

My greatest Inspiration

My family is my greatest inspiration.

My greatest challenge

In sport, the greatest challenge for me before the Paralympic Games in Rio was to train for the 400m. It was new for me, I didn’t know how to run it, what I should do, or what my coach wanted from me. I had a limited time frame to be prepared for this distance.

My greatest sporting moment (outside of individual moments!)

I like boxing – I watched the match between Jorge Linares and Vasyl Lomachenko, the Ukrainian who boxer who was knocked down during his fight. But he didn’t give up – he stood back up. Also, he had ruptured the ligament in his left arm, so he won this fight with only one arm. That impressed me a lot and was a great example that you never should give up. You should do your best until the very end.
