Netherlands name squad for Doha 2015

Dutch Athletics have announced their 18-member squad that will compete at the IPC Athletics World Championships, which will take place 21-31 October in Doha, Qatar.

The roster includes six men and 12 women, comprising the biggest team the Dutch have sent to an IPC Athletics World Championships.

Marlou van Rhijn is among the standouts. The 23-year-old will look to defend the 100m and 200m T43/44 titles she won at the 2013 World Championships in Lyon, France. She holds the world records in the women’s 100m (12.82) and 200m (25.64) T43 events.

Kenny van Weeghel will also aim to defend his title in the 100m and 200m T54 events. Meanwhile, Ronald Hertog will seek his first world gold after taking silver in Lyon 2013 in the long jump T44.

The 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships is one of the last major competitions ahead of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. The competition will feature around 1,300 athletes from 100 countries and will take place in the 12,000 capacity Qatar Sports Club’s - Suhaim Bin Hamam stadium.
