New Delhi 2026 GP: Preview, stars and how to watch
Paralympic stars Sumit, Praveen Kumar and Preeti Pal lead home charge as 257 athletes from eight NPCs return to a venue that hosted India's first ever World Para Athletics Championships six months ago 10 Mar 2026
New Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is set to host the second Grand Prix of the season, as home stars return to a venue that crowned world champions just months ago.
The JLN Stadium, highlighted by its newly installed MONDO track, welcomed 1,100 Para athletes from 100 nations last October when it hosted the country's first-ever World Para Athletics Championships.
The venue hosted a World Para Athletics Grand Prix for the first time in March and will remain part of the GP programme for the next two years.
This year, 257 (187 male and 70 female) athletes from eight NPCs have arrived to compete at the Grand Prix.
Home heroes
India topped the podium at the season-opening Grand Prix in Dubai and will be hoping to maintain that momentum with a star-studded line-up.
Two-time Paralympic champion Sumit Antil and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games gold medallist Praveen Kumar headline a strong home contingent, as the hosts field 219 athletes (165 male and 54
female) in the three-day competition.
Sumit, who opened his season with gold in the men’s javelin F64 in Dubai, will aim to continue his dominance, while Praveen Kumar begins his 2026 season on home soil. The Paris 2024 gold medallist in the men’s high jump T64 will compete in three events — men’s 100m, men’s long jump, and high jump T44.
Two-time Paris 2024 medallist Preeti Pal, who secured gold and bronze in the women’s 100m and 200m T35 events respectively at the season-opening Grand Prix in Dubai, will be another home favourite to watch.
Among other stars, three-time Paralympic medallist Mariyappan Thangavelu (men's high jump T42) and Paris 2024 silver medallist Ajeet Singh (men's javelin throw F46) add further strength to the host nation’s campaign.

International names
Unlike Dubai, New Delhi will see a comparatively smaller international field. Nevertheless, several notable athletes return to the venue of their world championship success.
Two-time world champion David Dzhatiev will compete in the men’s 100m and 200m T35 events, while two-time Paralympic gold medallist Elena Pautova will also be in action in the women’s 1500m T13 event.
Nepal’s Para athletes, including Himal Aryal – who made history at the World Championships in New Delhi last year – return to New Delhi to gain valuable Grand Prix experience.
