“It is great to have this event so close to home and give the team the opportunity to compete against world class shooters.”

With just 52 days to go until the IPC Shooting World Cup in Sydney, Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) has announced their team to compete in Sydney from 15 – 19 September.

Malcolm Humm (High Performance Director, PNZ) said: “This is the largest team to have ever left New Zealand shores to compete at an IPC Shooting World Cup which bodes well for the sport in the future. Led by three-time medal winning Paralympian Michael Johnson, the team also includes young rising development athletes Ronan Murphy and Neelam O’Neill.

”PNZ have already secured one shooting slot for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and this provides a great opportunity to secure further slots.

“While this competition also provides a great development opportunity so close to New Zealand for those athletes targeting the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Shooting para-sport is recognised as one of the most competitive Paralympic sports and Johnson has already won three gold medals this season at international events.

He has set his targets for the IPC Shooting World Cup and said: “I know this will be a challenging event with over 300 athletes competing from around the world. The level of competition is going be very high however I am aiming to win two medals.
