“The World Cup will be important as part of my preparation for Rio. But it is a very important competition by itself as well.”

The second leg of the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup will take place in Ostend, Belgium, from 20-22 May.

This event is another opportunity for the athletes to compete at an international level in the build-up to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

“The World Cup will be important as part of my preparation for Rio. But it is a very important competition by itself as well,” said world champion Israel Hilario Rimas.

The Peruvian cyclist had an accident three weeks ago while training and could not participate in the first leg of the Road World Cup series in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, but underwent a quick recovery and is ready to compete in Ostend.

The time trial events will take place on 20 May, followed by the road races on 21-22 May and the team relay competition on 22 May.

The third and last leg of the season will be held in Spain, from 15-17 July.
