Paris long-needed mid-size venue will host five days of Para powerlifting medal events from 4 to 8 September and will also be the home of Para badminton at this year's Paralympic Games 09 Aug 2024The Porte de la Chapelle Arena, nestled in the northern district of Paris, stands as a symbol of innovation and community empowerment. Designed with a vision that extends far beyond its role in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this eco-friendly arena will serve as the prestigious venue for the Para powerlifting and Para badminton events, after hosting badminton and rhythmic gymnastics at the Olympics, bringing global attention to one of Paris's most ambitious urban regeneration projects.
The French capital has long needed a mid-size venue capable of hosting significant sports events, and the Porte de la Chapelle Arena fulfils this need. After the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the arena will continue to host top-level sports tournaments and a variety of cultural events, cementing its role as a key player in the city’s cultural landscape. It will also serve as the home ground of Paris Basketball. The two adjoining gyms will remain open to the public, providing much-needed sports facilities for the local community.
One of the most striking features of La Chapelle Arena is its commitment to sustainability. The arena’s design integrates eco-friendly materials and practices, with 80% of the building’s surface covered in greenery, harmonizing with the parks and gardens that envelop the site. The structure's façade is clad in recyclable aluminium, and bio-based materials like wood are extensively used throughout. This emphasis on eco-design reflects a broader commitment to creating a lasting legacy that benefits both the environment and the local community.
Every aspect of the venue, from the main hall to the surrounding facilities and the terrace that spans the entire complex, is designed to be universally accessible.
Porte de La Chapelle Arena was awarded Certivéa’s Accessibility certification upon opening in February 2024. The certification is awarded as proof that a venue meets requirements for hosting large events, has taken measures against the effects of ageing structures, and assesses usability, comfort and safety of spaces for all users. It stands as proof that the venue provides the best standard of usage quality for all.
