Sochi Reaches Landmark in Protecting the Environment

Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee volunteers have taken part in a project to replant endangered plants away from the zone of Paralympic on the Psekhako Ridge, near the village of Krasnaya Polyana.

This marks the 100th measure put in place the by Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee to promote the protection of the unique nature in the region of the Games and to improve environmental literacy amongst the Russian population.

Replanting the rare plants, listed in the Book of Endangered Species, was implemented as part of the complex natural measures carried out by Sochi 2014 construction partners.

Compensatory measures carried out by Sochi 2014’s construction partners include the preservation of large populations of rare animal species and a number of rare plant species.

Since the beginning of 2010 more than 2,400 specimens of rare plants have been transplanted, tens of thousands of trees have been planted and more than 300 adult animals have been relocated, including a large number of eggs and young of rare amphibians.
