World Para Athletics, the international federation for Para athletics, has signed an agreement with Sportissimo to become an official supplier of the sport until at least the end of 2018.

The five-figure agreement will see the Italian manufacturer and supplier of track and field equipment supply Para athletics-specific equipment, devices and accessories to Local Organising Committees of World Para Athletics events. This includes World and regional Championships, as well as annual Grand Prix events.

World Para Athletics and Sportissimo will also work together to develop new products.

Ryan Montgomery, IPC Summer Sports Director, said: “The appointment of Sportissimo as an official supplier of World Para Athletics will bring great benefits to the whole sport.

“In addition to providing a pool of equipment free of charge to Local Organising Committees of World Para Athletics events, as well as at cost rental and purchase offerings, we will work with Sportissimo to develop a number of new Para sport products. This is a very exciting partnership for World Para Athletics.”

Dante Acerbis, the founder of Sportissimo, said: “We are happy and very enthusiastic to start this partnership because we believe that everyone has a right to compete in sport. This partnership has the purpose to improve the technical aspect for all track and field disciplines and elevate the level of Para athletics competitions.”

Sportissimo is the first Official Supplier of World Para Athletics and join Asics and Allianz who are both Official Partners.

Para Athletics is the biggest sport within the Paralympic Movement boasting nearly 5,000 licenced athletes in close to 160 countries. World Para Athletics biennially hosts World and regional Championships as well as an annual Grand Prix series around the world. In addition, the World Abbott Marathon Majors provides the world’s best wheelchair racers opportunities to compete in many of the world’s leading distance races. In early August 2017, the first edition of the World Para Athletics Junior Championships took place in Nottwil, Switzerland.
