Tokyo 2020 and Bejiing 2022 to work together

The Organising Committees of the Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement ensures co-operation between the two Committees to ensure successful delivery of their respective Games and promote further Olympic and Paralympic movements in East Asia.

Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 have committed to cooperate and exchange knowledge in various ways. The two Organising Committees will exchange expertise and personnel, as well as sharing Games-related experiences in areas such as sustainability, Olympic and Paralympic education and the utilisation of emerging technologies.

The Memorandum of Understanding also foresees the fostering of an exchange of information in order to promote sport and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Beijing 2022 Executive Vice President Zhang Jiandong said: “This is a milestone event in the cooperation between our two organisations. We thank the International Olympic Committee for their strong support for the successful signature of this MoU.

“Both the Beijing 2022 Games and the Tokyo 2020 Games provide unique opportunities for promoting cultural exchanges and friendship between the peoples of China and Japan. I wish every success for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Tokyo 2020 Chief Executive Toshiro Muto added: “We are pleased to have signed this Memorandum of Understanding promoting co-operation between the two Organising Committees responsible for delivering consecutive Olympic and Paralympic Games in East Asia.

“Based on this MoU, we will promote the exchange of knowledge between the two organisations as well as contribute to promotion of cultural exchange, and we will proceed steadily on our preparations for a successful delivery of the Games.”
