Members of the Tokyo 2020 Exeuctive Board are set to lead both the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Japan.

With the new appointments, Tokyo 2020 has now completed the laying of a solid foundation for the Organising Committee to ensure the successful preparations and operations of the Games.

All 34 members of the Executive Board of the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games met on Wednesday (26 March) to finalise the Board’s composition with the appointment of six Vice Presidents, a Director General and three Senior Executive Board Members.

With the new appointments, Tokyo 2020 has now completed the laying of a solid foundation for the Organising Committee to ensure the successful preparations and operations of the Games.

The newly appointed members of the Executive Board are as follows:

Vice Presidents

Akio Toyoda (Chairman, Committee on Promotion of Sports, Keidanren/President, Toyota Motor Corporation)

Yoshitaka Sakurada (Minister of Sports/Senior Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)

Ichiro Kono (President, Japan Sport Council)

Tsunekazu Takeda (Member, International Olympic Committee/President, Japanese Olympic Committee)

Yasushi Yamawaki (Governing Board Member, International Paralympic Committee/Director of Japan Sports Association for the Disabled and Vice President of Japan Paralympic Committee)

Toshiyuki Akiyama (Vice Governor of Tokyo)

Director General

Toshiro Muto (Chairman, Daiwa Institute of Research / Chief Executive Officer Tokyo 2020)

Senior Executive Board Members

Yukihiko Nunomura(Former Director General, Sports and Youth Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology/Chief Operations Officer, The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games)

Hirobumi Kawano (Vice President, Japanese Olympic Committee)

Hiroshi Sato (Former Vice Governor of Tokyo/Chairman and President of the Credit Guarantee of Tokyo)

Also decided at the Executive Board meeting were the three following main points of emphasis for the current fiscal year:

1. Formulation of a Games Foundation Plan, and promotion of steady preparations including the design and construction of temporary facilities

2. Marketing and strategic communications activities

3. Strengthening of headquarters’ capabilities and the establishment of a solid financial base
