U.S. Powerlifters Shafik and Stack Nominated for London 2012

Stack will make her fourth consecutive Paralympic Games appearance since 2000.

U.S. Paralympics has announced that powerlifting athletes Mary Stack and Ahmed Shafik have earned nominations to the London 2012 Paralympic Games based on recent athletic performances.

Stack will make her fourth consecutive Paralympic Games appearance since 2000. And Shafik (Tucson, Ariz.), will make his Paralympic debut in London.

“Mary and Ahmed are our veteran lifters, and they both prove that practice and resilience pays off because for the first time in both of their careers, they medaled internationally in 2011 at the Parapan American Games, and now they are both ranked fourth in the world on their way to London,” U.S. Paralympics Powerlifting Head Coach Mary Hodge said.“They are extremely driven athletes and will represent the USA well at the Paralympic Games.”
