The US men’s and Argentinian women’s wheelchair tennis teams won the Americas Qualification at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, USA, and will compete at the 2018 BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Apeldoorn, Netherlands from 28 May-3 June.

USA reversed the result of its round-robin tie against Chile to return to the men’s Finals after two years. World No.51 Chris Herman beat Francisco Cayulef 6-4, 6-4 in the opening rubber, while Casey Ratzlaff gave the hosts the victory after defeating Alexander Cataldo 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4.

Colombia took third place after a 2-0 win over Ecuador.

Argentina back into the Finals

It will be the first time since 2006 that the Argentinian women’s team participates in the World Team Cup Finals. They secured qualification after earning a 2-1 victory over Colombia.

Antonella Pralong ensured that she remains unbeaten in junior and singles matches since early October 2017 when the 16-year-old secured a 6-1, 6-1 win over Colombia’s Johana Martinez. World No.12 Angelica Bernal then beat Argentina’s Maria Florencia Moreno 6-2, 6-4 to force a deciding doubles.

Pralong and Moreno later joined forces for a thrilling 6-2, 6-7(3), 10-3 victory over their Colombian rivals to secure their place in the Finals.
