Vadovicova breaks world record at Poland World Cup

Veronika Vadovicova of Slovakia has been formidable in the past two seasons, picking up two European and one world title.

The 32-year-old led from the very beginning, peaking at two 10.9’s in the third round and barely trailing off during the rest of the competition.

Slovakia’s Veronika Vadovicova smashed through the R3 (mixed 10m air rifle prone SH1) finals world record on Friday (17 April), on the opening day of the 2015 IPC Shooting World Cup in Szczecin, Poland.

Vadovicova, who holds two European and one world title in other rifle events from the past two years, showed her potential in yet another by shooting 213.0, sending a warning to her rivals ahead of Rio 2016.

The 32-year-old led from the very beginning, peaking at two 10.9’s in the third round and barely trailing off during the rest of the competition.

Ukrainian Iurii Stoiev (209.7), who won bronze behind Vadovicova at the 2013 IPC Shooting European Championships in Alicante, Spain, collected silver.

The home crowds were delighted with a bronze medal courtesy of Waldemar Andruszkiewicz (188.9), who beat 2014 World Championships podium finisher Abdullah Sultan Alaryani into fourth place.

Action continues at the 2015 IPC Shooting World Cup on Saturday (18 April), with R2 (women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1) world champion Vadovicova in action once again. R1 (men’s 10m air rifle standing SH1), will also run.
