The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced its shortlist for July’s Athlete of the Month award, and the public can now vote for the winner via the poll on www.paralympic.org.

All six finalists were the top performers at this year’s largest para-sport event – the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships, which took place in Lyon, France.

The finalists for July’s IPC Athlete of the Month include:

-Mandy Francois-Elie (France): The host nation’s hero in Lyon won world titles in the 100m and 200m T37 sprints and set a new world record in the 200m.

-Alan Fonteles Oliveira (Brazil): The Brazilian sensation won three golds in Lyon (100m T43, 200m 43, 400m T44), setting a new world record in the 200m. He also set a new best time for the world’s fastest amputee, running the 100m in 10.57 at the Anniversary Games at London’s Olympic Stadium.

-Walid Ktila (Tunisia): The wheelchair racer stormed to gold in all four of his events in Lyon (100m T34, 200m T34, 400m T34, 800m T34).

-Brent Lakatos (Canada): The Canadian picked up four golds in Lyon (100m T53, 200m T53, 400m T53, 3x400m relay T53/54) as well as a silver (800m T53). Then, at the Anniversary Games, he set a new world record in the 100m T53.

-Raymond Martin (USA): At just 19 years old, Martin swept his events in Lyon, picking up five gold medals (100m T52, 200m T52, 400m T52, 800m T52, 1,500m T52). In doing so, he became the first man to ever win five individual world titles at the Championships.

-Tatyana McFadden (USA): As the top individual winner in Lyon, McFadden made history, hauling in six gold medals in as many events (100m T54, 200m T54, 400m T54, 800m T54, 1,500m T54, 5,000m T54). She became the new world-record holder in the 800m T54 and is now the only athlete to have ever won six world titles.

The public now has until 17:00 (CEST) on 8 August to vote for which athlete it thought had the best performance last month.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and International Federations (IFs).
