World Para Athletics (WPA) is initiating a review of the World Para Athletics Classification Rules and Regulations. The purpose of this review is to ensure that the Classification Rules and Regulations continue to reflect best practices, and to provide clarity on the interpretation and application of the rules.

In the first phase of the review, World Para Athletics would like to invite the WPA community to submit recommendations and/or proposed amendments to the Classification Rules and Regulations no later than 24 November 2023 by recording them in the WPA Classification Rules and Regulations Review survey here.

The survey is open to athletes, coaches, team managers, National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and National Federation (NF) administrators, classification supporting staff and classifiers.

All recommendations and proposed amendments will be reviewed, consolidated, and considered for possible inclusion by the WPA Management Team in consultation with all relevant stakeholders based on the seven-phase review timeline. On completion of the classification rules review process, the new WPA Classification Rules and Regulations will come into effect.

“WPA looks forward to engaging with the WPA Community during the Classification Rules and Regulations review process. We are grateful for all stakeholders who have already provided input in our ongoing Sport Technical Rules review, and I trust the same engagement will take place during this Classification Rules review process,” Paul Fitzgerald, Head of World Para Athletics, said.

“We greatly value your participation in the review of WPA Rules so that we continue to develop our sport in a collaborative way. We look forward to your continued meaningful input on both our Sport Technical Rules and Classification Rules,” Fitzgerald added.
