In exactly one year from now, the greatest Para athletes in Europe will descend on Berlin for the 2018 World Para Athletics European Championships. Here’s what you need to know about the year’s biggest Para athletics event.

1. The World Para Athletics European Championships will take place in the German capital city of Berlin between 20-26 August.

2. It will be organised by IPC Athletics, the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Germany and Behinderten-und Rehabilitations-Sportband Berlin.

3. Events will be contested at the Friedrich Ludwig Jahnsportpark, one of the most important competition venues in Berlin, which has staged the annual World Para Athletics Grand Prix since 2013.

4. Over 600 athletes from 40 countries are expected to compete.

5. This will be the sixth edition of the European Championships. The first one took place in Assen, the Netherlands, in 2003. Since 2012, it has taken place every two years, with the latest edition being held in Swansea, Great Britain, in 2014.
