Canada triumphed in an exciting 4-3 victory over Russia that went to a penalty shootout on Thursday (29 August) at the International Ice Sledge Hockey Tournament "Four Nations," which took place in Sochi’s Shayba Arena.

Star forwards Greg Westlake and Brad Bowden both stuck the puck into the net during the penalty shootout to give Canada the victory, as Vadim Selyukin was the only Russian to score against Corbin Watson.

Selyukin originally started the game’s scoring, netting the puck twice in the first period, with Marc Dorion tallying a score to keep the defending world champions within one.

After a scoreless second period, Ruslan Tuchin scored early in the third to give Russia the 3-1 edge and put them on the verge of an upset.

However, Billy Bridges scored shortly after, and Westlake then netted a goal off a pass from Bridges with less than two minutes to go in regulation to send the game to overtime, which eventually led to a shootout.

In the first game of the day, meanwhile, Norway defeated the Czech Republic, 4-1, with goals from Rolf Pedersen, Morten Vaernes Klakegg and Knut Nordstoga.

Jiri Berger scored the lone goal for the Czech Republic, as Michal Vapenka recorded 13 saves.
