Canada's iconic retailer, Hudson's Bay Company, unveiled the Team Canada Collection that will outfit their athletes at the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games to fans first via Facebook Live.
Inspired by the strong spirit of Canada, the official Team Canada replica wear will be available at all Hudson's Bay locations across Canada beginning 4 May 2016, with select key pieces available to shop online at thebay.com.
"As a Premier Partner of the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee, Hudson's Bay is deeply committed to supporting our athletes and bringing the passionate spirit of the Games to Canadians through our clothing," said Liz Rodbell, President, Hudson's Bay. "Wearing Canada's colours unites us all and we are looking forward to cheering on Team Canada as they go for gold in Rio."
As the Official Outfitter of Team Canada, Hudson's Bay provides each Olympic and Paralympic Team member with leisurewear, jackets, pants and accessories as part of their Rio 2016 uniform. The full clothing kit includes Closing Ceremony and podium looks, as well as village wear, all designed exclusively by Hudson's Bay Company's in-house team of designers. The collection captures the strength of Canada, unifying performance, patriotism and style to create a look that is iconic, modern, and most of all, passionately Canadian. Inspired by the Canadian flag, the maple leaf was used in outline and solid form, combined with the Canada wordmark. A new and refreshed take on the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic uniform, the collection is bold and embraces the tradition and honour of the country.
Additionally, Hudson's Bay Company enlisted world-renowned Canadian fashion designers Dean and Dan Caten, Dsquared2, to design Team Canada's Opening Ceremony uniform. The look which includes a jacket, shirt and pants is a formal take on an athletic look and uses a red, white and black colour palette.
"The Canadian Paralympic Committee is appreciative of its longstanding partnership with Hudson's Bay Company and we are excited to work together on growing the Paralympic brand," said Gaétan Tardif, President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee. "Today's collection truly reflects a strong Canadian identity and we know that Team Canada, and indeed Canadians from coast to coast, will wear these clothes with tremendous national pride. With less than five months to go until the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, we look forward with great anticipation to Canada delivering a strong performance in Rio."
For the Rio 2016 Games, there will be more than 315 athletes competing for the Canadian Olympic Team and approximately 170 athletes competing for the Canadian Paralympic Team. The 2016 Team Canada Collection includes colour-blocked tees, word marked hoodies, nylon track jackets, and accessories including hats, scarves and more. This will outfit them in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, during podium presentations, and while relaxing in the athlete village.
