Chefs de Mission Meet for 2008

From 5 to 7 September, the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games Chef de Mission Seminar took place in Beijing, China, with delegates of more than 90 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) as well as International Paralympic Committee (IPC) representatives participating. 07 Sep 2007 By IPC

“The IPC is confident that BOCOG will hold splendid Paralympics”

During three days of meetings, the Beijing 2008 Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (BOCOG) presented updates on topics including Qualification, Accreditation, Sport Entries, Classification, Sport and Venues, Transport, Paralympic Village and NPC Services.

Besides various presentations and workshops aiming at briefing the NPCs on the preparations for the Paralympics, listening to their needs and seeking their opinions and suggestions to improve the preparations, the Seminar included a venue tour to competition venues and the Paralympic Village.

On the occasion of the One Year Countdown to the Games on 6 September, NPC representatives were also invited to an official dinner at the State Guest House in Beijing.

Said Liu Jingmin, Vice Mayor of Beijing and BOCOG Executive Vice President: “With the support of the Chinese Government and Chinese people, the preparatory work for the Beijing Paralympic Games have progressed smoothly in the past six years. The major objectives for every step have been fulfilled as scheduled to lay a foundation for the success of the Paralympics.”

IPC CEO Xavier Gonzalez expressed his appreciation to the Chinese Government for its support to the Paralympics and for the voluminous work of BOCOG. “The IPC is confident that BOCOG will hold splendid Paralympics”, he said.

Chefs de Mission are representatives selected by each NPC to oversee the general management of its delegation for a sporting event, eg, World Championships and Paralympic Games.
