Summer and snow sports take centre stage in an unusual December

By IPC

It may be the final month of the year, but there is still plenty to watch in the Para sport world. And while traditionally December is a winter sports month, this year sees two of the biggest competitions in summer sports take place.

World Para Powerlifting and Para Swimming Championships

Two of the biggest Para sport competitions will be held together for the first time in history in Mexico City from 2-8 December. Around 1,200 athletes, officials and staff from 89 countries plus the Independent Paralympic Athletes’ Team will compete across both sports. The competition has been rescheduled from 30 September - 7 October following the devastating earthquake that hit Mexico City on 19 September.

World Para Alpine Skiing Europa Cup

The circuit will move to Pitztal, Austria, for the second Europa Cup between 7 and 8 December. Sella Nevea, Italy, will be the third stop from 29 December-2 January.

World Para Nordic Skiing World Cup

Canmore, Canada, will celebrate the first World Cup of the 2017-18 season between 9 and 17 December, featuring both biathlon and cross-country races.

World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup

There is not one, but two World Cups before the end of 2017. The series will kick off on 11 December, with the first World Cup taking place in Saint Moritz, Switzerland, and running until 16 December. The second stage will be held in Kuhtai, Austria, from 19-22 December.

PTT US Open

Las Vegas, USA, will stage the last Para table tennis competition of the year from 13-17 December, with men’s and women’s singles and team events being contested.
