Hug wins 3rd consecutive Oita Marathon

Hug finished the race in a time of 1:25:08 to take first place in the men’s T34/53/54 event ahead of Japan’s Yamamoto Hiroyuki and Hokinoue Kota.

At age 26, Marcel Hug of Switzerland won his third straight Oita Marathon on Sunday (28 October), adding another title to his already stacked list of accomplishments in 2012.

Hug finished the race in a time of 1:25:08 to take first place in the men’s T34/53/54 event ahead of Japan’s Yamamoto Hiroyuki and Hokinoue Kota.

Earlier this year, Hug took silver medals in the 800m and marathon T54 events at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, and just last month won the Berlin Marathon.

Swiss veteran racer Heinz Frei finished in fourth place in Oita.

Japan’s Tsuchida Wakako took the title in the women’s T34/53/54 with a mark of 1:43:10, as Canada’s Diane Roy finished second in 1:49:30 and USA’s Amanda McGrory placed third with a time of 1:51:57.

In the men’s T33/52 class, Japan’s Toshihiro finished in a time of 2:00:05 to win the event, and he was followed by Thailand’s Pichaya Kurattanasiri and Spain’s Santiago Santz.

Japan’s Inoue Satoshi was the only competitor in the men’s T51 division, finishing in a time of 2:59:13.
