Rio 2016 preview: Men’s up to 88kg

By IPC

Only 4kg separate Egypt’s Hany Abdelhady, Iran’s Seyedhamed Solhipouravanji and Jordan’s Mutaz Zakaria Daoud Aljuneidi in the Paralympic rankings. The battle for gold will be interesting in the men’s up to 88kg at the Rio 2016 Parlympics.

Abdelhady currently holds the world record, which he set in February at the World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, following a fourth lift. But it was Solhipouravanji who took gold at that event, successfully outperforming Abdelhady after three pushes for a best 232kg.

They know they will be chasing each other in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

But they cannot forget about reigning world champion Aljuneidi, who recorded 229kg to world gold in 2014.

You can catch the men’s up to 88kg on 13 September at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. All Para powerlifting events will be contested at the Riocentro – Pavilion 2.
