Rio 2016 Preview: Women’s over 86kg

Josephine Orji may celebrate her Paralympic debut with gold. 03 Sep 2016 By IPC

Nigeria’s Josephine Orji, also known as Precious, enjoyed a great 2015 season on the bench. That success is expected to carry over into Rio 2016.

The women’s over 86kg world champion also won gold at the 2015 Asian Open with a new world record of 153kg. Not many women in the category have come close to lifting that much.

Egypt’s world silver medallist Nadia Ali may have something to show at Rio 2016. In February 2016, Ali lifted 141kg at a World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Also vying for the podium is Poland’s Marzena Zieba, whose lift of 132kg in February showed her potential in Rio.

You can catch the women’s over 86kg on 14 September at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. All Para powerlifting events will be contested at the Riocentro – Pavilion 2.
