Snyder hoping to mark comeback with repeat victory

It was the first time anyone had come that close to beating the Russian in the 200m breaststroke in six years.

Day two (14 July) at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Great Britain, is set to feature the USA’s Bradley Snyder attempt to win the men’s 400m freestyle S11 world title, to add to his poignant gold medal from London 2012.

Snyder, who won gold in London exactly one year after losing his eyesight whilst on duty with the US Navy in Afghanistan, will be going for his second gold after winning the men’s 100m freestyle on Monday (13 July).

Here are some other highlights from Tuesday at Glasgow 2015:

Men’s 200m individual medley SM10

Canada’s Benoit ‘The Shark’ Huot has won gold in this event at every World Championships since 2002, and is the holder of two Paralympic titles.

He is still amongst the best in the world at the age of 31, and is also preparing for the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games from 7 August.

Women’s 100m breaststroke SB8

Russian reigning world and Paralympic champion Olesya Vladykina has worked hard since her debut at Beijing 2008 to perfect her technique in this event.

But at the 2014 Euros in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, Great Britain’s Claire Cashmore pushed the Russian to her limit and the pair registered a sensational dead-heat to share gold. It was the first time anyone had come that close to beating the Russian in the 100m breaststroke in six years.

If the 2015 world rankings are anything to go by, expect these two to be just as close in Glasgow.

The 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships will feature around 580 of the world’s best swimmers from nearly 70 countries. The event is also the biggest qualification opportunity ahead of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
