Tokyo 2020 begins Nippon Festival preparations

Event to promote Olympic and Paralympic Movements to be held ahead of next Summer Games 03 Nov 2017 By Tokyo 2020

The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) has held the first in a series of working group meetings aimed at agreeing the underlying principles of its planned “Tokyo 2020 Nippon Festival”.

Scheduled to run from April to September 2020, the Tokyo 2020 Nippon Festival will be aimed at promoting Japanese culture within Japan and globally, and at promoting the Olympic and Paralympic movements.

Organised in cooperation with the national government, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, prefectural governments, Tokyo 2020 sponsors and cultural and art organisations, it will represent the culmination of the Tokyo 2020 Nationwide Participation Programme.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will take place from 25 August – 6 September, featuring 4,400 athletes who will compete in 537 medal events across 22 sports.
