With 109 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) widely and regularly practising Para powerlifting, it is important to World Para Powerlifting (WPPO) that all NPCs and all Para powerlifting athletes have the opportunity to nominate and vote for candidates to the Committees.

NPCs have the option to designate to their National Recognised Organisation (NRO) the following:

  • The nomination of one candidate for the Chairperson of the Sport Committee
  • The nomination of one candidate for the Sport Committee
  • Voting rights for the virtual (online) election of the Chairperson of the Sport Committee and for one member of the Sport Committee
  • Nomination of one male and three female candidates for the WPPO Athletes’ Committee.

SPORT COMMITTEE

The composition of the WPPO Sport Committee consists of five members. The Sport Committee would be comprised of one elected chair, one elected Sport Committee Member and two Sport Committee Members appointed by WPPO and approved by the WPS Unit Board (taking into consideration the need for gender term balance) and the current elected WPPO Athletes’ Representative that will be the chair of the Athletes’ Committee.

The designated NPC/NRO will be able to participate in the virtual (online) election to vote for a single candidate running for the Chairperson position and for one member for the Sport Committee. The candidate with the highest count number of votes in each respective position will be selected as the Chairperson and as one of the Members of the Sport Committe.

ATHLETES' COMMITTEE

Meanwhile, the Athletes’ Committee would be comprised of five members (all of them elected). The currently elected WPPO Athletes’ Representative (Sherif Osman from Egypt) will remain and serve as Athletes’ Committee Chairperson.

The designated NPC/NRO will be able to nominate one male and three female candidates for the Athletes’ Committee members. WPPO will then invite all accredited athletes who have participated in 2024 World Cups (28 February - 26 June 2024) to participate in the virtual (online) election to vote for four candidates – one male and three female.

The top male and the top three female candidates with the highest number of votes will be selected. Only one athlete per country/ territory can be elected; This is based on WPPO requirements listed in the WPS Athletes’ Committee Terms of reference).
