Algiers 2018: Sherif Osman the history-maker

Egyptian targets another world record at African Championships 27 Jun 2018 By IPC

Despite having been on the powerlifting circuit for many years, Sherif Osman still has a burning passion to compete.

The Egyptian powerlifter is one of the best in the sport’s history, having won three Paralympic golds and three world titles.

He also holds the world record in two different categories; of 205kg in the up to 54kg and of 211kg in the up to 59kg.

But far from feeling satisfied, Osman remains hungry for more. With the 2018 World Para Powerlifting African Championships fast approaching, the 35-year-old has set clear goals for himself.

“I want to win the gold medal, achieve qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and break my own world record again one more time,” said Osman.

Further ahead, Osman is targeting the 2019 World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, where he aims to maintain his 100 per cent record at the competition.

“I want to win the gold medal at the Worlds next year. After that, I will focus on preparing for Tokyo 2020 and claiming my fourth Paralympic gold. Nothing is impossible.”

The 2018 World Para Powerlifting African Championships will be held in Algiers, Algeria, between 10 and 12 August.
