One day after not winning any medals in archery, China went back on track after ending with the gold and bronze in the men's individual compound event this Tuesday, with He Zihao and Ai Xinliang respectively.

"When I'm in the competition I don't focus on the scores, and today I got nervous at some point, and that made me miss some shots. Fortunately I was able to adjust in time in order to win (the gold medal)," said He to the Olympic Information Services (OIS).

This was the second medal in this edition of the Games to He Zihao, who had won the mixed team compound with partner Lin Yueshan on Sunday. He was seeded at No.1 due to his performance in the ranking round and defeated Iran's Ramezan Biabani 147-143 in the final.

"It is actually my second gold medal (at Tokyo 2020), so I am not so excited as I was when I won the first (in the mixed team compound). But I'm still glad to get this gold medal for my country. I'm really proud," he added.

Ai Xinliang defeated Slovakia's Marcel Pavlik 144-142 in the bronze medal bout, recovering from the loss in the same stage at the Rio 2016 Games.

"I would not let myself repeat that experience in Rio," AI said. "Although today I also had some regretful points missed, overall I'm satisfied with my performance."

Due to extreme weather conditions, the entire women's individual W1 competition has been postponed to Wednesday, 1 September.
