Rio 2016 silver medallist Luis Lucumi will headline the Colombian team at the first Nottwil 2017 World Para Athletics Junior Championships, set to take place in the Swiss town from 3-6 August.

Lucumi made a name for himself at his maiden Paralympic Games, finishing second in the men’s javelin F38 behind South Africa’s Reinhardt Hamman. Earlier this year, the 19-year-old also secured two golds at the Sao Paulo 2017 Youth Parapan American Games.

Nottwil 2017 will be another step for him to fulfill his biggest dream. “I can picture myself competing at Tokyo 2020 and am already working hard to live a second Paralympic experience. I want to win a Paralympic gold medal for my country,” he said.

Joining him at the Junior Worlds will be another six Colombian athletes: Diego Medina, Juan Scarpetta, Samuel Naranjo Rios, Duvan Castro Ramirez, Juan Sebastian Gomez Coa and Andres De Avila Gomez.

Colombia will be looking to continue improving at a youth level following an historic performance at Sao Paulo 2017, where the South American country took home 47 golds, 39 silvers and 25 bronze.
