The London 2019 World Para Swimming Allianz Championships is over, but Italy’s success continues. Carlotta Gilli’s extraordinary performances and four gold medals took her to first place in the election of the best female swimmer of the London Worlds.

The class S13 athlete received 37.7 per cent of the votes on World Para Swimming Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.

The Italian was followed by Great Britain’s Alice Tai – the winner of seven gold medals in the British capital –, who was the best swimmer for 32.6 per cent of the voters.

Dutch athlete Liesette Bruinsma finished third with 12 per cent, ahead of New Zealand’s Sophie Pascoe in fourth and Russia’s Valeriia Shabalina in fifth.

Italy also topped the medals table with 50 medals in total, including 20 gold – one more than host nation Great Britain.

Now it is time to vote for the best male swimmer at London 2019.

The names will be announced on Wednesday (2 October) and voting will be open until 9 October, 12:00PM (CET) on World Para Swimming Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
