Norway to face Canada for ‘4 Nations’ gold

Norway's Morten Vaernes has helped lead his team to the gold-medal game at the International Ice Sledge Hockey "4 Nations" Tournament in Sochi, Russia.

Russia will now face the Czech Republic for bronze on Sunday (1 September) at 12:00, and that will be followed by the Canada-Norway gold-medal game at 16:00.

Norway defeated the Czech Republic, 3-0, and Canada beat Russia, 2-1, on Saturday (31 August) in the semi-finals of the International Ice Sledge Hockey “4 Nations” Tournament in Sochi, Russia.

Norway came out firing on all cylinders, as both Rolf Pedersen and Morten Vaernes scored in the first period and Audun Bakke netted a score in the final period to give them the easy victory over the Czechs.

Norwegian goaltender Kristian Buen stopped all 18 shots that came his way, while Michal Vapenka recorded nine saves for the Czech Republic.

In the second semi-final, Kevin Rempel scored twice to give Canada the decisive victory over Russia, with Evgeny Petrov scoring the lone goal for the host nation.

Canada’s Corbin Watson had 13 saves in the net and Russia’ s Mikhail Ivanov had 10.

Russia will now face the Czech Republic for bronze on Sunday (1 September) at 12:00, and that will be followed by the Canada-Norway gold-medal game at 16:00.
