The clock is ticking down to the opening of the 2017 World Para Ice Hockey Championships A-Pool in Gangneung, South Korea, from 11 April.

Here is a breakdown of the vital statistics from the competition which will be broadcast live each day at Gangneung2017.com.

Teams from the USA, Canada, Norway, South Korea, Sweden, Italy and Germany will compete for the world title.

Teams will qualify for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games with their final standing.

The age of the youngest player, Norwegian forward Emil Vatne.

Vatne will make his World Championships debut. Not far behind is the USA’s Noah Grove who will also debut at the age of 17.

The age of oldest player, Sweden’s Goran Karlsson. Karlsson is also one of the most experienced players at the tournament. He helped Sweden to gold at the Lillehammer 1994 Winter Paralympics and the gold medal two years later at the first World Championships on home ice in Nynashamn.

The number of gold medals the USA and Canada have won over the years. Both countries have finished on the podium four times in eight editions.

Norway have one gold and four silvers but have not finished on the podium since 2009.

Three games will also be played each day during the round-robin stages as well as the medal and fifth place games on 20 April.

The number of times the World Championships A-Pool have been hosted in South Korea. The first was in Goyang in 2013 with Canada taking gold.

Two countries will also advance to the 2017 World Para Ice Hockey Paralympic Winter Games Qualification Tournament. There the bottom two finishers from Gangneung 2017 will get a second chance at qualifying for PyeongChang 2018.

Gangneung 2017 also doubles as the Test Event for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. All games will be played at the Gangneung Hockey Centre.
