2018 World Series champions to be decided in Berlin

The 2018 World Para Swimming World Series is coming to an end with the final event taking place in Berlin, Germany, between 7 and 10 June, where this season’s title-winners will be decided.

Daniel Dias still dreams of repeating last year's title as he is currently leading the men’s overall standings with 4,111 points. But Brazil’s most decorated Paralympian will not compete in the German capital.

Therefore, Colombian swimmers Carlos Serrano and Nelson Crispin will have the unique opportunity in Berlin of denying Dias the chance of successfully defending his World Series title.

Rio 2016 gold medallist Serrano is in second place with 4,070 points, while three-time Paralympic silver medallist Crispin is fifth with 3,973.

Another Latin swimmer who aims to take the men’s title is Alberto Abarza, who is currently placed third with 4,065 points. The Chilean is also fighting to finish top of the S/SB 1-3 High Support Needs men´s rankings, which he is comfortably leading with 4,065 points

Phelipe Rodrigues (4,013 points) is fourth but will not compete in Berlin like his compatriot Dias and therefore has no chances of winning the title.

Hong Kong’s Ka Chun Hui stands top of the men’s junior rankings with 3,571 points.

New women’s champion to be crowned

As 2017 World Series champion Monica Boggioni currently sits in 105th place in the women´s rankings, a new title-winner will be decided in Berlin.

Great Britain's Louise Fiddes (4,022 points) has arrived at the last World Series as the leader of the standings. But there are many top swimmers who are challenging that position.

One of those is Netherlands’ Rio 2016 bronze medallist Chantalle Zijderveld (3,937), who is second.

Another strong contendent is nothing less than Canada’s three-time Paralympic champion Aurelie Rivard (3,895), who shares the third position with Great Britain’s Maisie Summers-Newton.

All of them will dive into the pool for the final round of the World Series in Berlin.

Fiddes, Zijderveld and Summers-Newton will also be fighting to win the women’s junior title.

The S/SB 1-3 High Support Needs women’s rankings are being led by Brazilian swimmer Edenia Garcia with 3,461 points.

The National Paralympic Committee with the most points will also be awarded a title. Great Britain (15,706), Brazil (15,343) and Netherlands (15,161) make up the top three.

The World Para Swimming World Series in Berlin, Germany will feature 550 swimmers from 47 countries, and willl be live streamed on World Para Swimming’s website. Live results can be found here.
