World Para Powerlifting Technical Classification Rule Book Review template

“We are very keen to engage with the community to ensure the technical and classification elements of the sport reflect the significant progress Para powerlifting has made in the past few years.”

World Para Powerlifting has launched a call for recommendations and proposed amendments to its Technical and Classification Rules and Regulations.

Members, as well as National Paralympic Committee (NPCs) and International Organisations of Sport for the Disabled (IOSDs) who practice the sport, have until 30 April to send submissions.

World Para Powerlifting will review the feedback in consultation with its Sport Technical Committee, Classification Advisory Group and the International Paralympic Committee’s legal and medical and scientific departments.

The updated rules will be published in December and come into effect 1 January 2018.

World Para Powerlifting Senior Manager Jorge Moreno said: “I would like to invite all our members, as well as NPCs and IOSDs who widely practice Para powerlifting, to send any recommendations and/or proposed amendments you may have for the rules and regulations.

“We are very keen to engage with the community to ensure the technical and classification elements of the sport reflect the significant progress Para powerlifting has made in the past few years.”

The Classification Rules and Regulations will include the adoption of the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Classification Model Rules. These are designed to ensure World Para Powerlifting is compliant with the 2015 IPC Athlete Classification Code, which must be done by 1 January 2018.

The regulatory provisions (including but not limited to those related to anti-doping and medical services) of the Technical Rules will also be revised to ensure consistency between the sports governed by the IPC.

The excel templates to send proposals can be downloaded here and sent to ipcpowerlifting@paralympic.org.
