The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has confirmed the entry list for the wheelchair tennis event at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games, from 24-30 August.
A total of 44 players from 14 countries will compete for gold medals in men’s, women’s and quad singles and doubles events, with the quad draws being contested at the Parapan American Games for the first time.
The men’s and women’s singles champions will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, subject to meeting additional eligibility criteria.
Singles entries are a combination of direct acceptances based on the wheelchair tennis rankings of 8 July 2019, bipartite commission invitation places and host country allocations.
Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez will be looking to win his third successive Parapan men’s singles gold medal after beating his countryman Agustin Ledesma in the final in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2011, and USA’s Jon Rydberg in Toronto, Canada in 2015.
Brazil’s Toronto 2015 female champion Natalia Mayara will also bid to repeat her victory of four years ago. She lines up alongside the likes of 2011 singles silver medallist and 2015 bronze medallist Emmy Kaiser of USA and Colombia's Angelica Bernal, the highest ranked player at the entry cut-off.
USA’s world No. 2 David Wagner heads the entries for the quad singles, alongside countryman Bryan Barten and fellow top 10 ranked players Robert Shaw of Canada and Ymanitu Silva of Brazil.
Full entries are available on the ITF’s website
Lima 2019 will feature over 1,800 athletes competing across 17 sports, overtaking Toronto 2015 as the biggest Parapan American Games in history.
Tickets can be purchased online.
