The 2022 World Para Ice Hockey Championships C-Pool will take place from 6-11 December in Bangkok, Thailand, where six teams will compete at the third edition of the event.

Hosted by the Sports Association for the Disabled of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King, the round-robin style tournament will be held at the Thailand International Ice Hockey Arena with the top finisher advancing to the B-Pool for next season.

Austria and Great Britain will both return to international competition at the event, while Armenia, France, Kazakhstan and Thailand will play at a World Para Ice Hockey sanctioned event for the first time.

“We are thrilled to bring back the World Championships C-Pool after the event was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, and even more excited to have four new teams joining us on the international stage,” said World Para Ice Hockey Manager Michelle Laflamme.

“This tournament will be a strong showcase of the growth of our sport and the many new nations who have built programmes over the last decade,” Laflamme added.

This will be the first time the event is held in Asia, after previously being held in Novi Sad, Serbia in 2016 and Vierumaki, Finland in 2018.

“It is our pleasure to host the World Para Ice Hockey Championships C-Pool in Bangkok, Thailand,” said Wahsin Leeskul, Thailand’s Para ice hockey team manager.

“It plays an important role in diversifying culture, as we will have a big winter sporting event in our country. Moreover, it is the first time for us to see the expansion of this sport in Asia, and it’s such a good opportunity to share culture among participating countries as well,” said Leeskul.

Austria won the first edition of the C-Pool Worlds in 2016 with China taking the title in 2018.
