He began swimming in 1994 at age six in Cherepovets, Russian Federation.
Why this sport?
He trained in swimming prior to his accident. After rehabilitation from his injury, he returned to the sport after his friend and coach Ivan Ilyichev suggested he begin training as a Para athlete.
