She began training seriously in Para swimming in 2004.
Why this sport?
She had competed in swimming before her accident. She initially did not want to return to the sport after her injuries, but finally decided to return to the water.

Impairment
She was paralysed from the chest down after an accident in 2002 in Atlanta, GA, United States of America. She and her then partner were packing items onto a rented truck in preparation for moving. The brake and transmission of the vehicle failed and she was hit by the moving truck, being pinned to the pavement. (portlandtribune.com, 21 Feb 2010)
