She took up the sport at age nine.
Why this sport?
"Coach Jerzy Piatkowski persuaded me to swim. I was age nine at the time and I wanted to learn to swim, but I didn't know exactly how to go about it. I took to it so well that pretty soon I was able to compete at my first Polish championships. From then on, I quickly began winning medals and titles."
