He began swimming in 2000 in Lipno nad Vltavou, Czech Republic.
Why this sport?
He took up swimming to help with his rehabilitation. "My parents had a boarding house in Lipno and there was a 12.5m long swimming pool. As a child, I underwent two difficult operations on both knees and the doctors recommended that I move mainly in the water, in the whirlpool, in the rehabilitation pool. So for me, it was a journey from rehabilitation to elite sports."
