SANCTION
In January 2020 he received a suspension of nine months from the International Paralympic Committee [IPC] after a urine sample he provided in August 2019 returned an adverse analytical finding for the prohibited substance hydrochlorothiazide. He claimed to have ingested the substance in blood pressure medication and that a translator did not disclose the name of the medication prior to the sample testing. BREAK
He took a five-year break from the sport after competing at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens. "My sporting activities were gradually diminishing and I was only exercising to maintain my fitness. It lasted for five years and I was away from professional sports during that time. It made me lose my spirit and I was not in good shape. Eventually, with the encouragement of the family, my good coach Bahman Rezaee, and my friends, I decided to try and return to my best. The decision improved my mental health and that of my family, and it clearly had a positive effect." (miana.ir, 12 Jul 2016)
