She took up the sport in Rockford, IL, United States of America, and competed in her first major competition at age six.
Why this sport?
She initially played football but her parents noticed she was struggling to keep up with the other children. Family friend and US Para athlete Scot Hollonbeck suggested she should join Play Sports Forever in Rockford, IL, United States of America. When their track and field programme ended due to a lack of interest she switched to the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association [GLASA] in Lake Forest, IL, United States of America.
