When and where did you begin this sport?
He originally began swimming at age three in Kyoto, Japan, and took up Para swimming in 2001.
Why this sport?
He took up swimming at the recommendation of his parents for health reasons, but he gave up the sport after becoming paralysed down the left side of his body. He was inspired to take the sport up again after watching Japanese Para swimmer Mayumi Narita competing at the 2000 Paralympic Games on television.
