He took up para-athletics in 2000.
Why this sport?
He trained in boxing prior to his accident and later took up table tennis. A coach, Carlos Caballero, spotted him and encouraged him to try para-athletics instead. "Athletics gave me the opportunity to showcase my abilities regardless of the limitations I have."
