She was originally involved in wheelchair basketball and softball before switching to wheelchair racing during her freshman year at high school. "I saw a commercial with an athlete [wheelchair racing] just training, and I thought, 'What is that?' It was a really awesome chair, and I thought I just wanted to get in and try it."
